About Rocket Run
Rocket Run puts you inside a narrowing energy tunnel with a single continuous input: thrust. Holding the control pushes you upward, releasing lets you fall. There is no ground, no jump and no lane — only the tunnel walls and whatever is between them.
The boost meter is the strategic layer. Boosting increases speed and score rate dramatically, and it is the only way to reach the high-value energy pickups near the tunnel walls. But boosting also cuts your reaction window roughly in half, and the meter refills slowly. Choosing the safe straight sections to boost through, and holding it back through the tight ones, is what separates a good Rocket Run score from a mediocre one.
Barriers span most of the tunnel with a single gap, and the gap position moves between barriers, which means your vertical position must be planned across several hazards rather than one. Gap rings offer a score bonus for passing through their exact centre, which is the game's version of a skill bonus.
How to Play
Rocket Run starts as soon as you press Start and a short countdown finishes. Your runner moves forward automatically — your job is to choose the right action for each hazard as it arrives, and to keep doing it as the speed climbs.
You can pause at any time with P or Esc, and the game pauses itself if you switch tabs. There are no lives and no continues: when a run ends you can restart immediately, and your best result is saved to this browser.

Objective
Fly the tunnel as far as you can, spending boost on safe stretches and threading the moving gaps in each barrier.
Obstacles
- Energy barriers — span the tunnel with a single gap that shifts between barriers.
- Tunnel walls — contact at the top or bottom ends the run.
- Drifting mines — slow hazards floating in open sections.
- Narrowing sections — the tunnel itself tightens periodically.
Collectibles
- Energy cells — score pickups, with the highest-value ones near the walls.
Power-Ups
- Shield — absorbs one impact.
- Boost refill — instantly restores the boost meter.
- Multiplier — short scoring boost.
Every active power-up appears in the on-screen status area with the time it has left, so nothing about your current state is hidden inside the canvas. For a fuller breakdown of when each one is worth taking, see How Power-Ups Work in Endless Runner Games.
Scoring
Score scales with distance and current speed, so boosting genuinely raises your rate. Passing a gap ring through its centre awards a precision bonus.
Scores are stored locally in your browser using LocalStorage. There is no global leaderboard on this site and no score is ever uploaded — the records panel above is labelled Local High Scores because that is exactly what it is.
Tips and Strategy
- Never boost into a barrier you have not already lined up for. Boost on the straights, coast on the gaps.
- Gap positions alternate in readable patterns — look at the next two barriers, not just the one in front of you.
- Thrust in short pulses. Holding thrust builds vertical velocity that takes time to shed.
- Wall-side energy cells are only worth it with a shield in hand.
Difficulty
Rocket Run is rated Hard. Speed rises on a curve that approaches a ceiling rather than climbing forever, while hazard density and pattern complexity continue to increase slowly after that — so a long run keeps getting harder without becoming unreadable.
The level generator validates every section before placing it. Lane patterns always leave a route open, gaps are never wider than the runner can physically clear at the current speed, and two hazards needing different actions are never placed closer together than the minimum reaction window allows. If a section felt impossible, it was survivable but narrow. See Endless Runner Difficulty Systems Explained for how this works.

Accessibility notes
Everything you need to play is available as text on this page rather than only inside the canvas: controls, objective, hazard explanations and scoring rules are all above. Start, pause, sound and fullscreen are real buttons that work with a keyboard and with a screen reader. No action in this game requires two simultaneous inputs, and decorative animation across the site respects your system's reduced-motion setting.
Rocket Run — frequently asked questions
How does thrust control work?
Hold the thrust key or touch and hold to rise; release to fall. Your vertical velocity carries, so short pulses give finer control than holding.
Does boosting increase my score?
Yes. Score rate scales with speed, so boost is a real scoring decision rather than just a convenience.
Why do I keep clipping barrier edges?
Usually because you arrive with vertical velocity still building. Pulse the thrust to settle on the gap line before you reach the barrier.
